About – Why Figure Drawing?
Why Figure Drawing and Working with Live Models?
Figure drawing is one of the most difficult forms to practice. Practicing the most difficult enhances all other art forms that you might pursue. The human body is the thing that we are most familiar which would seem that it would be the easiest to draw but this is not the case. Since we are all familiar with the way human body should look the smallest little mistake is huge and throws the whole thing. In drawing a tree or landscape you have a lot of margin for mess up but not with a figure.
Living things also have an organic energy that has to be captured in successful drawings. So another huddle is make the model look alive. Capturing the life in a model is very difficult and requires discipline from the artist.
Practice Practice…Pencil miles as they say
It’s largely about training your eye. Just as a musician, dancer or athlete must practice and train to maintain a level of excellence, drawing a figure model from life on a regular basis keeps an artist in good form.
Life drawing is widely recognized as the foundation for fine art. Since the human body represents the most complex of creations, drawing a model is considered as one of the most difficult artistic challenges that an artist must face…..keep drawing…..it gets easier and should be enjoyable.
Turn off the world and draw
Life drawing is an opportunity to relax and focus without distractions. It is difficult now-a-days to hold our attention in one place, and most classes run 2 to 3 hours, depending on the class. Life drawing is a discipline that requires all of your mind in order to be productive. If we open ourselves up to it, this is a very relaxing and tranquil time…..and of course don’t forget to have FUN
